Trader Joe's Healthy Holiday Haul
I chose Trader Joe’s as my location for a “healthy junk food challenge” because it is a nation-wide chain store and I hope most of you have one within driving distance.
I had two main criteria while searching for “healthy-ish” junk food at Trader Joe’s. One, it had to be soy free. Soy is one of the most genetically modified foods in the industry and is estrogen synthesizing. Two, it had to be canola oil free. Canola oil is a by-product of the processed food industry. It is infammatory and is a fake food. This wasn’t a challenge to find grain-free or dairy-free foods. I was specifically looking for “treats” that fit the above criteria.
Friends, in all honesty, it was a challenge. Soy is often used as an emulsifier and canola oil is so inexpensive it is used in abundance. However, I did find some solid choices. You can watch my complete live video below or you can read the full list I’ve included in this article!
Here is the complete list of my haul from Trader Joe’s:
Almond Butter Granola
Hemp Seed bars
Organic Apple Strawberry fruit crushers
Organic toaster pastries
Organic Hot Cocoa Mix
Dark Chocolate & Dark Chocolate Raspberry batons
Chomp Meat Sticks (we grabbed the beef & turkey varieties)
Dark Chocolate Bar
Mini Peppermint Meringues
Organic Peanut Butter
Mixed Nut Butter
Tortilla Chips with Brussels sprouts, garlic, onion & parsley flavors
Chia Seed Tortilla Chips
Roasted Plantain Chips
Freeze Dried raspberries & strawberries
Scandinavian Tidings Gummy Candies
Organic Turkey Bites
I realize that these items listed above may not be low in sugar but I am a realist. During the holidays we want to indulge a little bit in our food choices. We have parties to attend, stockings to fill, and kids to keep happy. I hope these suggestions listed above help ease the confusion at the grocery store. I hope you feel increased confidence in the purchases you make for your family.
I’m curious, do you have a Trader Joe’s favorite “junk food” that I missed? Please share in the comments below.
